The Anacortes Small Boat Center group has elected their first officers, including treasurer Jack Richardson, secretary Beth Bell and President John Pope, shown here. Pat Barrett was elected Vice-President.

The Anacortes Small Boat Center is a group of local organizations and individuals dedicated to encouraging boating-related activities, holding boating classes, workshops and lectures and supporting rowing and sailing programs.

The organization discussed, at their organizational meeting Tuesday night, their next steps, including raising funds for a building for classes, small boat maintenance and tool storage.

Members suggested they might be able to use the Seafarers’ Memorial Park building on a temporary basis. The building is on property currently undergoing an environmental cleanup and will be moved because the most contaminated land is underneath it.

Organizations represented on the Small Boat Center board include: the Port of Anacortes, the City Parks Department, the Anacortes ;Yacht Club, the Anacortes Community Maritime Center, the Old Anacortes Rowing and Sailing Society (OARS), the Hole-in-the-Wall Paddling Club, the Anacortes Sea Venture Scouts, Skagit Valley College and the Anacortes School District.
