A wagon stops at Amos Bowman’s store in this early street scene, near Guemes Channel in the vicinity of Third Street and Q Avenue. Bowman’s other ventures included a lumber bill and hotel near Cap Sante. He also established a post office and began promoting it as Anacortes in the pages of his Northwest Enterprise; until that time, the tiny settlement was known as Ship Harbor.
