Washington State Ferries expected to back to full capacity in the San
Juans, starting Thursday, if the Kaleetan passes overnight sea trials
Wednesday night after more than a month of scheduled maintenance at
Dakota Creek in Anacortes.
The ferry system went on summer schedule last weekend, but without one of the regular boats on the Anacortes-Friday Harbor run, the 144-car Kaleetan. Consequently, they pulled in the 34-car Hiyu for inter-island runs and moved the 90-car Sealth from inter-island service to the main Anacortes-Friday Harbor service.
These changes left the Anacortes-Friday Harbor run with less capacity and greatly reduced inter-island travel.
Also on the Anacortes- San Juans run are the 144-car Yakima and the 124-car Chelan. The Hiyu is the ferry system’s only backup vessel.
