The Lady Washington was at Cap Sante Marina this week. Ships from Grays Harbor make Anacortes a waypoint on their travels around the Sound. Their next stop is Sucia Island. Historic replica Lady Washington, built for the Washington State Centennial in 1989, is accompanied by the Hawaiian Chieftain. Reservations for trips on the ship may be made at 1-800-200-LADY.

Perhaps it was a more common occurrence to come upon a beached octopus a century ago. But, it was the singularly creative mind of Henrietta “Bubble” Blaisdell that would attempt this intimate of a pose with the slimy creature. Far from the squeamish, it demonstrates the adventuresome and provocative approach she took to art and to life.
In Anacortes, Bret Lunsford explores the extensive photographic archives of the Anacortes Museum as well as the collections of many longtime Fidalgo Island residents to compile an entertaining visual history with more than 200 vintage images accompanied by informative captions.
