From Rick Austen:
I had the privilege of working in the city of Anacortes Fire Department from 1996 to 2006. In my 31 years in fire service, I have only met a few individuals that exemplify the highest standards in value, strength, honor, excellence, dedication and service to the Fire Department and community. Kevin McKeown is one of those individuals.
Kevin spent 180hours learning what it takes to be a Washington state firefighter I. He was Valedictorian of his recruit class. He demonstrated outstanding leadership in the academy and was respected by all of his classmates and instructors. He always respected the leadership of the Fire Department and the academy leaders. He was a great mentor and motivator to his classmates.
Kevin volunteered in the 2004 Skagit County Recruit Academy as lead logistics officer. It was a huge responsibility. He initiated original and successful plans to get the whole community involved with the Fire Department. Mayor Maxwell presented Kevin with a Certificate of Appreciation, recognizing Kevin’s dedication to the firefighter service and the community.
Kevin never lost his cool, and he always treated the patient or customer with dignity and respect. Kevin accepted risk to his life on every call, whether a structure fire, medical call, motor vehicle accident or hazard material incident.
I would hire Kevin, work for him or call on him if ever I am in need. That is what true brotherhood and sisterhood in the fire service is all about. I still have a home in that Ward 3, and if I were living there, I would be on his team to elect him.

Wow. Very impressive backing of Mr McKeown. I've actually had the opportunity to spend some of my professional career working FOR Mr. McKeown.
Working for him during his time as a co-founder of a small tech company, I was amazed by the abusive nature of this individual. Before endorsing this person too much I encourage you to ask him about his knowledge related to the default on the companies health care and his lack of leadership in disclosing this to any employees. I also encourage you to explore how he and his business partner left employees in the dark and hanging dry when payroll dried up.
"Protecting the future" or whatever my a$$. In all my years I have never met a more abusive and unprofessional individual.
