This item isn't really Anacortes news. But in light of current local efforts to get decent ways for bicyclists and pedestrians to cross Highway 20 on Fidalgo Island, I thought it is interesting that Washington is named most bicycle friendly state.

The Enchantress, the partially sunken tugboat in Fidalgo Bay has become a landmark for tourists and residents of Anacortes alike. Unfortunately, the old tug is polluting the waters and some people think she should be cut up and hauled to a landfill at great expense. Affordable housing movement here

About a dozen Anacortes residents got together last night to do something to make more affordable housing available here. Driven by City Council member Erica Pickett, the group said there is an urgent need to do something about affordable housing here.

Pickett said she wanted to know if there were enough people in town who want to work to form a non-profit organization to help increase thenumber of affordable housing units here.
