This year, Whidbey Island and part of Skagit County will benefit from a roadside safety project WSDOT recently awarded to contractor Coral Construction Company of Wilsonville, Oregon for $558,000.
Crews will reopen Chuckanut Drive (SR 11) south of Bellingham on Friday afternoon, Dec. 18, nearly a month after two separate rockslides blocked the highway and destabilized the hillside above the road.
Only a few more weeks before crews wrap construction near Quiet Cove on SR 20. Between now and then you’ll see crews installing lane markings (striping) and completing miscellaneous tasks during the day. At night, crews will close a lane while they install guardrail and lane striping.
With the ceremonial unveiling of a new highway sign by contractor representatives Thursday morning, business leaders, local officials and legislators officially marked the completion of the “missing link” in State Route 20 widening between Anacortes and Burlington.
Crews will pave sections of the highway between Campbell Lake Road and Sharpes Corner next week. Please use caution and watch for flaggers that will direct you through the construction zone.
