Preliminary reports from Haiti is that the American Red Cross office in Haiti has been destroyed and 9 mobile staff members are unaccounted for.  American Red Cross teams are mobilizing in Dominican Republic and Haiti to aid in the relief effort. The American Red Cross has designated 1 million dollars in funds from their International Disaster  Relief Fund.  The International Federation of Red Cross/Red Crecent is appealing for an intial 5 million dollars in disaster relief funds for Haiti.

Anacortes - The American Red Cross has deployed 6 more disaster managers to Haiti to support the 15 managers on the ground already. The Red Cross Disaster supply warehouses in Panama have been engaged in sending materials to the region.  The Red Cross pledged $200,000 immediatly after the earthquake and has now raised that to 1 million dollars in relief.

As temperatures drop across the country and we head full steam ahead into the winter season, American Red Cross is urging families to take the following actions now to prepare for hazardous winter weather.

The ASJI Red Cross was called to the 900 block of Commercial Ave. to support 15 fire fighters from the Anacortes and Mount Erie fire departments as they searched for the source of smoke in a crawl space below the building. 

With forecasts for powerful winds and heavy rains expected throughout Western Washington, the American Red Cross reminds individuals and families to stay safe and be prepared. Some basic preparation and common-sense safety tips will help ensure safety during possible power outages and high winds.
