Millie & the Mentshn perform a free, live jazz concert at the Library; visit jazzatthelibrary.com for details. This event is sponsored by the Anacortes Library Foundation Manieri Endowment. Millie & the Mentshn is a group of classically trained musicians who play world music that ranges from Prokofiev to Gershwin to Latin to dance-in-the-aisle Klezmer. Audiences of all cultural backgrounds enjoy the unusual combination of instruments, the intricate harmonies, and the variety of musical styles and traditions. "Heavy Mettle: From Shtetl to Tin Pan Alley" follows the history of Klezmer musicians from the late 1800s through the 1900s as they assimilate into the New World. Even for those unfamiliar with this musical genre, Irving Berlin, Bach, Piazzolla, and Gershwin will appear among others in the tangled web of the story from Gypsies to cowboys to baseball. Sunday, December 10, 2:00-3:30 pm at the library.
